Powerful Communication, with a Middle Management Team ~ China

The Western  management team and Chinese  management team considered they could improve communication between them. Whilst the initial brief was for a training course, we recommended that we first run a workshop with representatives from both groups, to understand what communication would be like when all was working well. In the workshop we used a Solutions Focus approach to identify issues, describe the future when they would be communicating well and provide examples of where it was happening already. From this work, they developed an action plan to improve communication. Following this we ran a 1.5 day course on Powerful Communications, helping the participants to understand better some of the cultural issues and some techniques to improve communication. Following this initiative, teams worked on a variety of projects to improve various aspects of communication and communication between the teams was much improved.

We were asked to run this course and generate ideas for a corporate challenge on “How to pick up extra business in this economy” We adapted the course to allow more time for the challenge, providing the necessary creative skills and focusing on certain stages of the Flexible Thinking Approach. The course produced a large number of ideas, including one radical but achievable product concept that is now being explored.

Having conducted a number of successful workshops for this company, we were asked to provide a course to develop facilitation skills. We ran the course and encouraged those attending to choose actual workshops to develop during the practical sessions.
