Yes! And... create breakthrough ideas for major opportunities and challenges

“The creative act … does not create something out of nothing; it uncovers, selects, re-shuffles, combines, synthesises already existing facts, ideas, faculties, skills. The more familiar the parts, the more striking the new whole.”

Arthur Koestler

Tackle major challenges and opportunities in a creative way

Our Innovation Architect package is designed to enable your staff to tackle issues that have a major impact on your organisation, whether they are opportunities to drive revenue, reduce costs or implement strategy.

It is a package that combines consultancy, facilitation and development for your people, which we run in association with the Silver Bullet Machine Manufacturing Company. Your organisation benefits from the evaluated ideas and your people have sufficient knowledge to use the creative method outside of the process.

The Typical Process

No two organisations are the same, however this is a typical process as run with a major utility company. Click Case Study to read the full case study.

  1. We discuss the issue with a range of senior management staff to understand the background to the situation and the key challenges
  2. A team of people from across the company meets for a one day workshop to create challenge statements e.g. “What if we had to reduce the time to fix this type of incident from 54 days to 3 days? The output is fifteen challenge statements to work on at an idea generation and evaluation workshop
  3. You select 16 people from across the company (and possibly clients or sub contractors) for a training day on the idea generation and evaluation process
  4. On the training day, we teach the group about the method they will use in the workshop utilising case studies from previous clients
  5. You hold a two day workshop with the sixteen person group, which we facilitate.Three teams have three half day sessions, generating ideas to tackle one challenge per session. So the Group work on nine challenges in the two days, with the remaining six challenges in reserve. In the fourth session, the group present their findings to the others and evaluate and choose the best ideas for further exploration
  6. After the workshop, we prepare a full report, capturing all of the ideas and the process used to develop them. The client uses this to present to decision makers

The Creative Method

We use InnovAction, a method developed by our associate Dennis Sherwood. The steps in the method are:

  1. Define the focus of interest - to limit the scope of idea generation
  2. Define what you know about it - this is the basis for creative thinking
  3. Share what you know - so that the whole group understands all facets of the challenge
  4. Ask, “How might this be different?” - to develop creative ideas
  5. Let it be - let the discussion flow and find what ideas arise
